2009 BET AWARDS RECAP

Brace yourselves...this is going to be long ya'll!

Here's the Highlights of the Show:
Jamie dressed as Michael Jackson and doing the moonwalk, loved it!
Keri Hilson’s performance was geared towards the bad video even though at the end she was out of breath when she did acapella, it was a good performance overall.
The honor to the O’Jays was phenomenal, Tyrese, Johnny Gill, and Trey Songz did a wonderful job singing some of the O’Jays songs.
Maxwell did a wonderful job, love his single Pretty Wings.
Janet came to speak for the Jackson family and that is where I lost all my sanity. It took a lot of courage for her to do that and my condolences go out to the Jackson family.

The closing of the show was beautiful, Jamie and Ne-Yo sang together and I thought it was a nice ending to the show.

The Not so Good Parts of the Show:
Now…here’s where I have bones to pick with BET.
First off it was reported everywhere that Chris Brown and Usher were going to perform and pay tribute to Michael and neither one was there.
Secondly. Who chose for Ciara to sing Heal the World? I would’ve rather seen her sing “Rock with You” or "Startin Something" that would’ve been cool, she wouldn’t even have to dance all she had to do is what she usually does and that would've been fine.
Now…I love Beyonce but the song that she sang, had me looking at the TV screen all confused. I thought she was going to sing "Halo," I mean that would’ve been more appropriate. She could’ve done “Can’t Help It” like she did at her Philadelphia show for the I AM tour (big sigh).

Here's the video of Beyonce singing "Can't Help It" Shoutouts to Skorpion from The Skorpion Show for putting this on youtube.

....THE NOT SO GOOD PARTS OF THE SHOW CONTINED....

Soulja Boy…I just felt like they should’ve scrapped his slot for the show, I know they had to keep some of their regular program but I wasn’t feelin it. SORRY!
Now Drake and Lil Wayne and the rest of Young Money……….what in the world? Drake was ok singing Best I Ever Had, but soon as Young Money and Wayne came out singing Every Girl, I immediately cringed. That song is only meant for radio and summer jams, not the BET awards. Plus, they had little girls up there while they were singing “I just wanna f*&@ every girl in the world”…I was shaking my head like look at this foolery here. Didn’t I say in the midst of us mourning Michael’s death somebody was gonna act a hot mess! Lawd have mercy!
Oh! Last but not least, what were they thinking bringing out Ving Rhames to reenact the scene from Baby Boy with Tyrese and Taraji? That was a hot mess!

My Verdict:
After watching the awards, I honestly will say I did like it OVERALL, there were some things that needed to be fixed and cut out but considering the fact that BET only had three days to get their stuff together, I’ll give them a little credit. We all know MTV is gonna step their game up to honor Michael. I wonder what the BET awards was gonna be like without any mention of Michael Jackson. Which brings me to ask this question…why do we celebrate the lives of someone as great as Michael Jackson when they’re gone, but we don’t celebrate the lives of people when they’re alive? This man is a legend, he left us a legacy and all we can do is celebrate his work when he dies. Think about it people. Start celebrating life, celebrate and honor these talented people, celebrate and honor your family, friends, whomever, because they don’t have to be here and neither do we. And that family is my two cents.
